Social e-Profiler vs. Social Canvassing: What’s the difference?

By January 29, 2025No Comments

Our Social Canvassing services have long provided investigators with vital information from social media accounts and other internet accounts and related metadata. Recently, we added Social e-Profiler to our robust selection of offerings in order to save you time and money on your canvassing requests. Here’s a quick overview of Social e-Profiler and how it works in concert with our Social Canvassing services.

Social e-Profiler begins when you submit a search request based on a person’s full name, date of birth (or approximate age range), and at least one of the following: email address, username, phone number or zip code. The more information you can provide, the better your results will be.

A Social e-Profiler search takes between 60-90 seconds to complete. The result is a high-level report with information on your subject such as their social media accounts, internet searches, address history, education, relatives and more. Each section of information is separated into tabs within the report. Some sections, such as phone numbers and emails, include “quick action” buttons that allow you to immediately run Google searches on the provided information. Additionally, email results that were used with Google Map reviews will automatically present the related links. Breach data is also included with emails, letting you know if an email was used to create an account on certain platforms (i.e. Samsung, Nike+, Spotify, etc.)

Each social media account associated with your subject is presented on its own card within the report, with an identifier that shows how the match was made. Social media result cards will also show information such as: the social platform name (and link to live sites), usernames associated with the your subject, profile photos, number of posts, followers and following and User ID number for the platform profile (if available). Results from Social e-Profiler are stored for 14 days after the request is completed. After that time, you can view your search history and the information used to run the original search and request a new Social e-Profile if the previous one as expired.

After reviewing and validating your Social e-Profiler results, you’re ready to order a Social Canvass. Social Canvassing goes beneath the surface-level results and uses a human touch to verify the findings and conduct an in-depth search of your subject’s digital footprint. The amount of time it takes to receive your results varies depending on how much information about the subject is available online. A summary of the findings by a licensed professional is also available upon request. Additionally, all captures and video downloads are secured by adding a SHA256 cryptographic hash to safeguard against manipulation or unintended data conversions. Social Canvassing results are archived in the cloud for a minimum of ten years, remaining easily accessible and shareable.

Simply put, if you don’t know where to begin on social media investigations, Social e-Profiler is a fantastic tool to summarize your subject’s online footprint and determine if a full Social Canvass is necessary or valuable to your case.
